Personal Experience

Ira Reid is a veteran restructuring and insolvency lawyer with a proven track record in handling complex national and international matters. He is Of Counsel to J. Singer Law Group pioneering our firm's Chapter 11 Bankruptcy practice.


He began his legal career as a Law Clerk for U.S. Bankruptcy Judge, Honorable Cecelia H. Goetz, before joining LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae as a bankruptcy associate and later as counsel. Ira later became a partner in the restructuring group at one of the world’s leading international law firms, Baker McKenzie, for nearly 20 years. His expertise spans a wide range of restructuring and bankruptcy-related areas, including workouts, Chapter 11 reorganizations and liquidations, derivatives transactions, litigation and dispute resolution, structured finance, and cross-border restructurings under Chapter 15.


Ira's career encompasses a broad range of sectors, including retail, financial, healthcare, manufacturing, and telecommunications, where he has successfully navigated clients through challenging economic climates. He has represented a diverse clientele, including banks, non-bank financial institutions, hedge funds, trade creditors, bondholders, insurance companies, creditors' committees, indenture trustees, Chapter 11 debtors, trustees, and purchasers of distressed assets.


He offers comprehensive advice on a wide array of creditors' rights and bankruptcy-related issues, including executory contracts, debtor-in-possession financing, cash collateral, real estate, equipment financing, claims trading, and avoidance litigation.


Ira's educational background is equally impressive, holding a Bachelor's degree in English from the City College of New York, a Master's in Public Administration from New York University and a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Brooklyn Law School. He graduated in the top 4% of his class while simultaneously serving as the CEO of a mental health organization.


Admitted to practice in the State of New York, including the U.S. District Court and U.S. Bankruptcy Court in both the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, Ira has made appearances in bankruptcy courts across the country on a pro hac vice basis. He is a trained mediator, further enhancing his ability to navigate the intricate world of financial restructuring and bankruptcy law.


Ira's professional affiliations are extensive. He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, INSOL, and the New York State Bar Association and is actively involved in the Barry Zaretsky Bankruptcy Roundtable at Brooklyn Law School. He has also made significant contributions to the legal community, including his roles in the New York City Bar Association and leadership within its derivatives and structured finance committees.
